Sweet Tooth Sunday: Charlotte Pasticceria

Charlotte Pasticceria is a cute and cozy pastry shop that brings French style and tastes designed for the Italian palatte into one. On the weekends you will find a line(not just because its a COVID world), and once you try the creations - you will know why! Italians have wonderful desserts like tiramisu, panna cotta and cannoli. Dessert is sweet and enjoyable, but never over the top. When I want something special, this is my go-to pastry shop. Its French flair in a Roman neighborhood - and all in a good way. It has style but, it isn’t stuffy or pretentious. This is one shop where the service is consistently friendly and welcoming, and they take their time with each customer answering questions and making recommendations.

The cafe itself is small, but a cute and quiet spot for a tea and dessert. There is also outdoor seating with the whole viral situation. The traffic here is mostly takeaway dessert. I have taken these cakes and treates for lunches and parties and no one ever complains or says, “well I know this place that does it better”(!) And if they do dare to bark, get new friends because they clearly have no taste or apprieciation for the good stuff. Nota bene: this is not a place for cornetti/croissants, go next door to Schietto.

My favorite things here are the Tart Citron Yuzu which is the crunchy doppleganger to the Lemon Yuzu eclair from L’Eclaire de Genie and the burnt merengue is as the kids say, is EVERYTHING. The Tiziana, is a little dome that packs a giant chocolate punch filled with layers of mousse, raspberry and chocolate cake and the Snickers bar is a delictate sweet crunch of praline, caramel and just enough chocolate (which is very reminicent of the Kit Kat bar from Central Michel Richard). If you are in Rome and want a little taste of Paris - this is the place. The desserts change by season - they have a gorgeous selection for the holidays. And they are always worth the wait. Vai!
