Holiday 2022: Elevated Krispie Treats

Pairs nicely with other treats!

Nothing like a festive season to bring on the sweets! This recipe is a classic with a small twist on flavor, notably Maldon Sea Salt to augment the sweetness. It is also a nickel-free friendly recipe, and one that can easily be adapted to lactose-free by using lactose free butter. The rest is easy peasy! A good wooden spoon or silicone spatula will be helpful.

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups/ 160 grams of Rice Krispies cereal (you can also used puffed rice cereal, but may need to bake it for 10 min at 175C/350F to get the crisp going)

  • 5 cups/ Two 175 gram packages of Haribo Family Size Marshmallows (or whatever marshmallows you find)

  • 4 Tablespoons of unsalted butter

  • One half of a vanilla bean scraped (or a teaspoon of very good quality vanilla extract)

  • a big pinch of Maldon flaky sea salt (half a teaspoon)

Instructions

Prep a large dish with parchement paper or non-stick spray. Measure out the cereal in a bowl and set aside. In a large pot slowly melt the butter on low heat. Add the vanilla and sea salt and stir. Then add the marshmallows and stir slowly do not raise the heat because marshmallows can quickly burn. When the marshmallows are melted and in one big squishy manageable mass, add the cereal carefully coating evenly. Put the mix in the prepared dish and let it cool off at least an hour before cutting into squares (although warm rice krispie treats are delish). Enjoy!
